  • Multiply your opportunities at Truro & Penwith College with Free maths workshops, activities and courses for adults aged 19+
  • Improve job prospects, upskill your workforce, keep up with your children or just feel more confident with numbers, Multiply offers something for everyone.
  • Multiply offers adults without a maths GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent, free flexible courses to improve their numeracy skills

Multiply is for adults aged 19+ who wish to improve their employment chances, need help with budgeting & money management and want the skills & confidence to help their children with their maths homework.

Truro and Penwith College will deliver a programme of free workshops that will improve maths participation and confidence amongst adults.

The free training is available thanks to the UK Government’s Multiply programme, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with £2.5 million allocated to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, aimed at improving numeracy skills across the county.

Truro and Penwith College will deliver three ‘collections’ of workshops throughout February and March 2023.

‘Maths for Parents’ offers parents of primary and secondary school children the knowledge to support with homework and preparation for exams, ‘Refresh’ supports adults to work towards formal maths qualifications at GCSE or Functional Skills level, while ‘Mobile Maths’ will deliver workshops in the community to build numeracy confidence in everyday situations such as identifying the best-buys, working with measurements and understanding pay packets.

The UK Government reports 17 million adults in England have the numeracy skills of primary school children, equating to half of the working-age population.

The College is encouraging adults across Cornwall to take advantage of the training to improve their skills, employment prospects and quality of living.

Cornwall’s employers are also set to benefit from the scheme, with free bespoke courses designed and delivered by the College to ensure employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills to complete their daily duties effectively.

Businesses that develop their employees’ numeracy skills can boost productivity, increase profits and improve staff retention.

Angela Powell, Multiply Manager at Truro & Penwith College said: “I am very excited to manage the Multiply Project for Truro and Penwith College.

“Maths is a huge part of many careers and opportunities. I want to empower people to banish maths anxiety and feel confident to develop their careers and support their children through their mathematical journey whilst going on a journey themselves.”

Angela and the Multiply team are delivering the community, workplace and College-based activities that are designed to provide the necessary foundations to Multiply participants to progress onto further training, accredited qualifications, access career progression pathways and feel more assured in their ability to support their family with Maths.

Charlotte Styles, Programme Team Leader for Future Skills Institute at Truro & Penwith College said: “Our Multiply team is now looking forward to working with our business partners, community organisations and with parents and carers on an exciting range of workshops and courses that will make a real difference both to how adults engage with maths and to their training and career opportunities.
